Why Order from Amazon Japan?

Many Japanese limited editions are made for Japan only. Amazon Japan (Amazon.co.jp) can deliver them straight to you through AmazonGlobal, without a middleman.

In short:

  • Amazon.co.jp is Amazon’s own store for Japan
  • Get items made for the Japanese market
  • Easy: no middleman, import charges paid at checkout
  • Fast: as little as 3 business days to the US
  • Brand-new from Amazon.co.jp, with no reseller markup

What is Amazon.co.jp (Amazon Japan)?

Amazon.co.jp is Amazon’s own store for Japan, the Japanese counterpart of Amazon.com. It isn’t a lookalike site. Its Conditions of Use name Amazon.com Services LLC in Seattle as the site operator, with Amazon Japan G.K. in Tokyo as the contact in Japan.

  • Why “.co.jp”? It’s the web address ending for companies registered in Japan, like “.co.uk” in the UK. Amazon runs a separate store for each country, and this is the one for Japan.
  • Is it genuine? Yes, when the Shipper / Seller line says Amazon.co.jp. Amazon itself ships and sells the item, brand-new. Other sellers also list items on the same page, just as on Amazon.com.

Special editions with extras, store bonuses, and other goods are often released only in Japan. Many of them are sold by Amazon.co.jp and can be delivered to you. See What is tokusouban?

We checked: are they sold on Amazon in other countries?

In October 2026, we looked for six Japanese editions we feature on Amazon in the US, the UK, Germany, France, and Singapore. We searched by product ID (ASIN), barcode (JAN or ISBN), and English title.

ItemAmazon US, UK, DE, FR, SG
Blu-ray with an Amazon.co.jp bonusNot found
Limited-edition Blu-rayNot found
Two manga special editionsMostly not found. Where listed: out of stock, or from other sellers only
Two Japanese trading card booster boxesMostly not found. Where listed: out of stock, or from other sellers only

None of the five stores sold the Japanese edition brand-new from Amazon itself. All six are listed on Amazon.co.jp, sold by Amazon.co.jp (some are out of stock or invitation-only).

For example, the Japanese special edition of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Vol. 15 was listed on Amazon UK and Germany, but out of stock. On Amazon France, it was sold only by another seller, well above the Japanese list price.

Translated editions are a different story. Searching by English title mostly brought up the English, French, or German editions. They’re separate products with their own local prices, and may not come with the same extras as the Japanese edition.

Listings change over time. These results are from October 28, 2026.

Easy to order

  • No middleman. You don’t need a proxy or forwarding service. You order from Amazon.co.jp yourself, and it ships to your address.
  • Import charges paid at checkout. Amazon calculates import charges and shows them as Import Charges on the final checkout page. You pay them with your order, so you usually pay nothing on delivery.
  • No guessing the total. You see the item, shipping, and import charges before you click Place your order.
  • In English and USD. Switch the site’s language and currency in a few clicks.

Faster than you might think

To the US and Canada, the fastest option takes as little as 3 business days, according to Amazon.co.jp’s delivery time page (October 2026).

Example (one item to New York, USA, shown at checkout on October 22, 2026):

OptionEstimated deliveryShipping
Priority (fastest)October 28 (6 days)¥6,204 (about US$39)
StandardNovember 9 (18 days)¥4,603 (about US$29)

The faster option costs more. Times vary by country and item. Dollar amounts are approximate, at the November 6, 2026 exchange rate.

Brand-new, with no reseller markup

When the Shipper / Seller line says Amazon.co.jp, you’re buying a brand-new item from Amazon itself, at Amazon’s own price, not from a reseller.

Did you know?
In Japan, new books are sold at the same list price at every bookstore. So the price of a regular new book on Amazon.co.jp is the same as in a Japanese bookstore. (Editions bundled with goods may be priced differently.)

Why prices look low, and what you’ll actually pay

Prices on Amazon.co.jp are set in yen for shoppers in Japan. Depending on the exchange rate, an item can look cheap once converted into your currency.

Shipping and import charges are added on top, though. For a single small item, shipping can cost more than the item itself.

Example (one item to New York, USA, October 2026):

LineAmount
ItemUSD 15.80
ShippingUSD 19.07
Import chargesUSD 4.44
TotalUSD 39.30

Costs depend on your country and the item. See the steps and costs in How to Order from Amazon Japan to Your Door.

Things to keep in mind

  • Not every item ships to you. Check the buying box for a delivery fee and a cart button.
  • Ordering together is usually cheaper per item. Shipping is a fee per shipment plus a fee per item.
  • You’re charged in yen. Your card company may add a foreign transaction fee.
  • Import charges are an estimate. From November 5, 2026, Amazon won’t refund the difference if the actual charges are lower, and won’t charge more if they are higher.
  • Some countries pay on delivery. In some countries, import charges are paid when the package arrives instead of at checkout.

FAQ

Is Amazon.co.jp the same company as Amazon.com?

Yes, it’s the same Amazon. Amazon.co.jp’s Conditions of Use name Amazon.com Services LLC in Seattle as the site operator.

Is Amazon.co.jp legit?

Yes. It’s Amazon’s official store for Japan.

Are items on Amazon.co.jp genuine?

Yes, when the item is shipped and sold by Amazon.co.jp. Amazon sells it brand-new. Check that the Shipper / Seller line says Amazon.co.jp.

Can I use my Amazon.com account on Amazon.co.jp?

No. Amazon.co.jp uses its own account, separate from Amazon.com. You create one when you place your first order. Amazon.co.jp doesn’t accept requests to link the two accounts.

Is Amazon.co.jp in English?

Yes. You can switch the site’s language to English and show prices in USD.

Can I buy Japanese limited editions on Amazon.com?

It depends on the item, but the Japanese edition itself is often hard to find. When we checked six Japanese editions on Amazon in the US, the UK, Germany, France, and Singapore in October 2026, most weren’t listed at all. Where they were, they were out of stock or sold only by other sellers, not by Amazon itself. Translated editions are separate products.

Does Amazon Japan ship to the US?

Yes, through AmazonGlobal. Not every item ships, so check the buying box for a delivery fee and a cart button.

How long does shipping take?

To the US and Canada, as little as 3 business days with the fastest option.

Do I pay customs or import fees?

In most cases, import charges are shown and paid at checkout, so you usually pay nothing on delivery. In some countries, you pay them when the package arrives.

Is Amazon Japan cheaper?

Prices are set in yen, so depending on the exchange rate, items can feel cheap. But shipping and import charges are added. For one small item, shipping can cost more than the item.
